Dorothy is the founder of Workplace Health and Wellbeing. Her background is in Education. After cruising close to burnout in April 2016, Dorothy looked to figure out what was happening to herself. Her personality needed a logical solution to what was happening. She came across a great article on stress and burnout at the time and she thought “I want to know more and ensure others also know the antecedents to stress before it took a grip on their lives”. She completed a MSc in Workplace Health and Wellbeing in August 2018 after identifying the need for regulation and structures in the whole area of workplace wellbeing. She is passionate in the need to develop thriving workforces by providing healthy workplaces. Workplace Health and Wellbeing Ltd was founded in November 2018. The first few months were figuring out exactly what her target audience is, the professional services that could be provided, the brand and the basics- like how to close a deal. Market penetration began in March 2019 and has achieved a lot in a short space of time working with both private and public organisations as a consultant and trainer. Workplace Health and Wellbeing Ltd is building alliances nationally and there is great synergy between the company and others that are looking to invest in resilience and wellbeing interventions. Employee engagement is huge now as differentiator in companies that thrive and create positive company culture. Talent Retention which is linked to employee engagement is a huge area for all organisations. In a nutshell, Workplace Health and Wellbeing Ltd provides evidence-based and theory-driven benchmarking, frameworks and workshops. Workplace Health and Wellbeing Ltd can work as a stand-alone unit in smaller organisations or dovetail in with HR and H&S departments in larger organisations. Dorothy also founded a social enterprise Next Step Forward in May 2019 in response for evidence-based resilience and wellbeing workshops for 6th class pupils in school transitioning to secondary school. Next Step Forward delivers workshops to schools directly and privately to groups of individuals. Next Step Forward was recognised by the Social Entrepreneurs Ireland as having the potential to make a positive impact on society as a whole. This earned Next Step Forward a place on the SEI Ideas Academy West. Dorothy had to pivot both her businesses in March 2020 and began immediately providing all consultations and training virtually. This resilience was recognised by Extra.ie and Image Magazine where both ran features on her and both her businesses. She won the Power Within Category in the Businesswoman of the Year Network Ireland Galway Branch in August 2020 and went on to represent the branch at the Network Ireland National Awards in October 2020. Dorothy is constantly upskilling and innovating and she has used personal time in 2020 to complete Year One and begin Year 2 on the Thrive Programme Entrepreneurs Academy, complete SEI training, complete a QQI Coaching Qualification and become a DISC profiler.
